Overview of the Championship

Dates: June 23 - 29, 2008.

Course Architect: Donald Ross.

Championship Course Par: 72.

Field: 156 players, both professional and amateur.

Format: 72 Hole stroke play; Field will be cut to low 60 and ties plus anyone within 10 strokes of the leader following the completion of the second round.

Purse: The purse will be determined in May 2008, however at the 2006 U.S. Women's Open the purse was $3.1 million with $560,000 to the champion.

**Due to heat and humidity, spectators are permitted to carry in one clear bottle of water no larger than 20 ounces.

Autographs
Autographs are permissible, however, not during a player’s round.

Bleachers
Grandstand seating will be available throughout the golf course and at the practice range.

Camera Policy
Cameras are permitted on Monday – Wednesday ONLY.

Concessions
There will be numerous concession stands located throughout the golf course serving a variety of items. No food and beverage can be brought in to the championship.

Cub Foods Vouchers
Ticket vouchers from Cub Foods can be exchanged at the championship for an official championship ticket.  The ticket voucher can be redeemed at the admissions gate.

Inclement Weather
The USGA will have meteorology staff on-site monitoring the possibility of inclement weather. If inclement weather is approaching, special “weather warning” signs will be posted on leader boards around the course.

When the sign appears, spectators are advised to take immediate precautions (including clearing grandstands) PRIOR to play being suspended. In the event of a weather warning, please avoid:

        Hilltops

  • High places
  • Isolated trees
  • Golf carts
  • Wire fences
  • Open areas

If play is suspended, which will be indicated by 1 prolonged air-horn blast seek shelter immediately.

Handicap Access
Pride Mobility Scooters will be provided on a first come, first serve basis at the Main Admission Gate.

Kids / Youth Tickets
Kids 17 and under are admitted FREE to the championship when accompanied by a ticketed adult each day of the championship. One adult may escort up to nine (9) kids. It is not necessary to notify the championship office in advance.

Merchandise
The on-site merchandise tent covering more than 8,000 square feet offers a variety of merchandise bearing the U.S. Women’s Open logo.

Some of the merchandise available for purchase includes caps, shirts, T-shirts, sweaters, jackets, artwork, lapel pins, golf balls, divot repair tools, ball markers, towels and more.

Acceptable forms of payment in the Merchandise Pavilion are: U.S. dollars, traveler’s checks, American Express, Discover, MasterCard and VISA. Personal checks are not accepted.

Phones
Cell phones, PDA's or other portable e-mail devices are not permitted on the grounds.

Players
156 professional and amateur players. The field will be cut after the second round.

Several players are exempt from qualifying, including past champions Annika Sorenstam, Birdie Kim, Meg Mallon, Hilary Lunke and Juli Inkster.

Prohibited Items
The following items can not be brought into the championship:

  • No Cell Phones – including any cell phones with photographic capabilities
  • No PDAs and/or other Portable Email Devices
  • No Noise Producing Electronic Devices
  • No Cameras and/or Camcorders (other than Monday through Wednesday for personal photographic use only and without their cases)
  • No Bags or backpacks larger than 8”W x 8”H x 8”D in its natural state
  • No Cases and/or Covers (such as chair or umbrella covers)
  • No Signs, Posters and/or Banners
  • No Televisions and/or Radios
  • No Food and/or Beverage
  • No Containers and/or Coolers
  • No Pets (other than service animals)
  • No Lawn and/or Folding Armchairs
  • No Bicycles
  • No Ladders
  • No Metal-spiked Golf Shoes
  • No Noisemaking Devises
  • No Weapons (regardless of permit, including but not limited to firearms or knives)

Any other items deemed unlawful or dangerous by the USGA and/or Championship Security Personnel, in their sole discretion.

Parents with small children are allowed to bring strollers and diaper bags, if needed. These items are subject to reasonable inspection before entering and/or at any time during the Championship.

Rain Policy
If it rains on any day of the championship, play will continue as long as it is deemed safe to do so. Each day’s ticket is valid only on the day it is printed for, therefore, a rain delay does not allow that day’s ticket to be transferred or used on a different day of championship play.

All Corporate Hospitality will be open every day rain or shine.

Spectators will be informed at the earliest possible moment of any changes to this policy.

Restrooms
Many locations around the golf course, mostly adjacent to concession areas.

Schedule of Events
Practice Rounds will be held on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Championship Rounds will begin on Thursday with the field cut at the conclusion of play on Friday.
There is not a Pro/Am as the U.S. Women’s Open is a USGA Championship.

Television
The U.S. Women’s Open will be broadcast nationally on ESPN and NBC.

Will Call
Will Call will be located at the Main Admission Gate. Will Call will be a secure way to leave tickets for use by someone else. Photo ID will be required at Will Call to pick up tickets.
